Designed for effortless family living it melds into its leafy locale with lush views of the parklands adjacent.
Through the beautifully landscaped front garden and past the front door, a long elegant hallway runs the length of the home, intercepted by a staircase that leads up to the family’s private living quarters.
Downstairs, flanking each side of the hallway, are various living spaces – study and library, family room, and informal and formal living rooms. Each integrates seamlessly with a tranquil outdoor courtyard that centres around a beautiful water feature and is paved in South Australian Mintaro Slate. Protected by a vast glass conservatory split roof, it captures river breezes that flow through the home.
Inside, each living space is sumptuous, warm and functional. The dado plastered walls are populated by artworks carefully positioned. Steel pivot doors and glassed-in corners entice the sunlight in. Hitting the corners of the rooms it produces a beautiful lit quality, dissolving the boundaries between indoors and out.
The formal sitting room is anchored by an elegant black granite fireplace and striking contemporary artwork. A beautiful glass bay window drinks in garden views, and above is an original and striking Art Deco glass light fitting found in New York City.
In the library, a dark timber floor-to-ceiling bookcase resides, accompanied by an overstuffed leather chair, plush sage green soft furnishing and vast glass doors that provide the cosy room an airy spaciousness.
At the end of the hallway is the ultimate entertainer’s kitchen. Open, functional and elegant, it draws inspiration from the classic French Brasserie and is dominated by a large island bench that resembles a counter top. Encased in Carrara marble, it houses luxurious custom-made oak cabinetry and a sunken stainless steel sink. It sits between a dining table for eight and large cooking area encased in a bank of marble subway tiles. Above is a stunning handcrafted rangehood. Nestled behind is a scullery containing floor-to-ceiling storage and a treasured piece of heirloom marble installed as an everyday workspace.
The generous use of natural materials throughout the property, such as marble, Sheoak timber, South Australian stone and slate, adds a layer of warmth and texture that contrasts with steel elements, and a soft tonal palette of white and mid-level greys. The timber shingle roof, royal oak plank floors, panelling and doors imparts a timeless and traditional feel whilst steel bay windows impart a crisp contemporary finish.
